Benedikt

My name is Benedikt and I am a student at VŠB, the Technical University of Ostrava, majoring in Applied Mechanics. I used to dislike learning, but over time I realised it was because the subjects were not hard enough to really challenge me, and because I disliked the way tutoring was done at primary and secondary school. I believed I could approach it differently and create a better experience for students, and that belief is what led me to tutoring.

I am motivated by a challenge, and I teach that way too. I enjoy situations that call for deep thinking and persistence, whether that is a complex mathematical concept or personal development, and I want my students to find that in a lesson rather than another hour of drill.

What motivates me in tutoring are the real results of my students. Seeing their improvement, their growing confidence and their academic success gives the work real meaning. Watching someone realise they are capable of more than they thought is incredibly rewarding.

My academic journey did not start in applied mechanics. I first studied nanotechnology at Palacký University in Olomouc. The field sounded impressive, but I soon realised interest cannot rest on how something sounds. I always had a strong relationship with mathematics and analytical thinking, I enjoyed working with my hands on experiments as a way of connecting maths to the real world, and I needed contact with people. Applied mechanics turned out to be the perfect combination of mathematical thinking and practical problem solving.

I spend most of my free time playing computer games. I also follow Formula 1, basketball and darts. I enjoy studying when the subject is demanding enough. An unusual hobby of mine is cold water exposure, which I practise every morning.
